My name is Peter Whitehead, I was born and raised in the Bahamas. Like any kid growing up in the Bahamas I lived in the boat, any free moment I had we were exploring the island, spear fishing, wake boarding and exploring new territory trying to stay out of trouble, ie getting home before sunset.
Our family always had guests. There were always people visiting us from around the world and my parents would always take them on trips to the out islands. Sharing all of the most amazing parts of the Bahamas with their friends and cousins who would visit. Hosting was just a part of life.
But of all of those trips the things I remember the most were simple things, trolling for fish with my father listening to the Beatles at full volume, eating mangoes while sitting in the water at a beach in the hot summer, showering off the back of a boat. Cooking the fish we caught that day and enjoying the meal as a family.
After years abroad in cities for school and university, while life has an incredible amount of things to offer, the Bahamas always called to me. So after many years living abroad I decided to move back home to Georgetown Exuma and start a Construction Company.
Moving there was life changing. Building beautiful houses in an incredible environment. Most days after work my friend John and I would go fishing and diving. I had forgotten how incredible the living experience was in the Bahamas. For years I had bought into the idea that you work away from nature and only go on holiday to enjoy it. Now working back home, I realized you could live and work in an environment you love.
It was then I decided I wanted to help people connect to the wonderful country I was rediscovering. One afternoon I was with John and we said, “this really is the good life,” and the name stuck. We decided to start a company.
As with visiting any country, it’s better if you know the locals, and have local insight. A proper trip to a country leaves you with unique memories. No confusion about where they happened; because those memories should be incredibly special, and unique to the country.
My goal is to help people experience the Bahamas the way we do on our favorite trips. That’s the purpose of The Good Life. We have put together a vast network of vendors who are friends of The Good Life. People we trust and have personal relationships with, not vendors on a list. People I would entrust my friends to navigate and explore the country when they visit.
Our concierge is in place to guide you through each step of your trip from planning and answering questions to being available to help anytime while you are here..
“You don’t know what you don’t know,” is as true here as anywhere, and our job is to help connect you to homes, people and experiences that you have a very hard time finding otherwise.
I look forward to meeting you soon. And hopefully connect you to a moment on your vacation where quietly say, “Wow, this really is the good life” ; )
